For Her Future's Reminiscence

Thanks to my blogger pass i had access to all the fashion shows and so i had the privilege to choose which to watch. Following are several shows from the event that i watched.

PART TWO

Much to my disappointment, 95% of the pictures i took for Indonesia Fashion Week was erased by my iPhoto. Fact is, my entire iPhoto pictures were wiped out. Yes, it still hurts to see my empty iPhoto but i guess i'll have to work with what's left of the thinning.

THALASSA by Ivan Gunawan

Thalassa in greek means mother of sea and she is the prime inspiration of celebrity turned fashion designer Ivan Gunawan's collection. His collection is an interpretation of the sea goddess with a modern twist. This ready-to-wear collection is a mix of glamour, streetwear and edgy designs.

I am honestly against celebrity turned fashion designer in general because in most cases they don't design for the means of designing, they design for the status, the fame, the money. Just because you can make clothes doesn't make you a designer. With that logic, i guess cooking instant noodle makes me a chef.
HOWEVER, Ivan Gunawan is an exception. His concept is simple and strong.  When i mean simple as in it's to the point, Thalassa. Some designers think the bigger the words, the better the concept. They make crazy complicated concept that almost speaks in its' own language. His color scheme is very lovely as well.

Though i wouldn't call this a mix of streetwear... It's more to haute couture. There are one or two pieces that are streetwear but other than that it's more to the glam than to the street. Also, the headpiece, reminds me a lot of Alexander McQueen

Those are the only flaws i could spot during the fashion show but asides from that, the collection in general is superb. Each piece had it's own intricate detail and he sure played a lot with different elements .. ruffles, laces, sequins, laser cuts and many more.

Chinoize by Algarry, Albert Yanuar

" ‘Chinoize’ is the theme of this Pre-fall 2015 collection. The word inspired by chinoiserie which is a style of ornamentation current chiefly in the 18th century in Europe. Chinoiserie characterized by the use of fanciful imagery of an imaginary China. In a broader scope, it refers to a mixture of Eastern and Western stylistic elements for both the decoration and shape. The use of lacquier like materials and decoration is the attempts to imitate Chinese porcelain. Based on the theme, this collection accentuate the use of intricate pattern. An extensive use of motifs combined with easy silhoutte, that will appeal to lots of women. Most of the motifs are hand-painted then digitally printed, making this collection the most authentic. Still inspired by the Chinese porcelain, some hand-painted motifs purposely made to  resemble an iconic batik from Cirebon, Mega Mendung. In addition, some of the dresses adorned with lace and embroidery to accentuate the elegance of this collection. The color pick for this Pre-fall collection is mainly royal blue, combine with white. The fabrics such as duchess and tulle were choosen to compliment the collection in a subtle manner."

Much thanks to the detailed explanation! I absolutely love his collection. The variety of his designs weren't the "oh i'll add a sleeve here, or a tail on this dress instead, maybe add a cut out on this one to make it look different from the other one." kind or the super overwhelming extraordinary unwearable variety that looks good on the runway but no one can wear it to anywhere. From the fashion show, i could see that he paid great attention to each piece. So, not only that it's artistic, it's sellable. With his wearable design, it will help with widening his market.

Aura Putri by Fransisca Darmawan

Xadine's Top #4

Designer Fransisca was inspired by Maluku traditions and through her stunning kebaya designs she wishes to raise awareness on the beauty of one out of the thousands tradition from our homeland.
Tbh, I'm not very fond of Indonesian fashion. I don't do batik, kebaya nor Indonesian haute couture designs. Fact is, i don't do haute couture but for this designer, i'll make a rare exception. I mean, who wouldn't.

Her dresses were in screaming colors. I guess that was one of the reasons that she got my full attention during her whole show. Each piece could have it's own fashion show. That's how interesting the show was to me, at least. I'll just let her designs do the talking (because no matter how long my rambling is about how beautiful her collection is, it still won't do justice).

The last dress to walk down the runway is definitely my favourite and the model happens to be my friend! Amazing model, amazing dress, amazing designer. The fashion show was definitely beyond my expectation and the good thing is that its not the only fashion show that gave me the chills. So, i have decided to do a Part 3 to review my top 3 favourite fashion shows.

Here are the websites of each of the designers
